PradoRey Gran Reserva
PradoRey Gran Reserva is only made in years when the grape shows the high quality necessary for a long ageing in oak barrels and bottles.
We made this wine in 1999 and 2004, vintage years classified as excellent by the Ribera del Duero D.O. Angel Luis Margüello, technical manager and winemaker at PradoRey winery explains the key to success of this wine as follows:
“The 7 vineyard sites where these vines were planted are at an average altitude of around 815m. orientated to facilitate the capture of sunlight. The soil’s chemical composition, with a predominance of clay loam soil with a small percentage of limestone, is ideal for obtaining age-worthy wines. This together with vintages classified as excellent and the influence of both Mediterranean and Atlantic climatic characteristics which provide ideal conditions for long ageing periods in barrels and bottles, results in an elegant and complex wine with traditional nuances on a par with the great age-worthy wines. Another influential factor is the yield per hectare. Although the D.O. authorises yields of up to 7,000 kg per hectare, to make PradoRey Gran Reserva the best grapes are hand picked from sites with yields not exceeding 3,000 kg. They grapes are kept in the best of conditions during their transport to the winery. As with the whole range of PradoRey wines, we carefully pay attention to each detail during the whole winemaking process so as to guarantee a high standard of quality”.
Decanting is recommended to fully appreciate this wine’s complexity.
